***Unappreciated and Kicked Around
It pains me to see what many would consider to be a great Turkish Patriot brought to book in such a crude and thankless manner. We named our youngest son after General Kenan Evren, because we and many like minded Turks felt that he and his men had stepped up to the plate at a time of dire need when Turkey was on the verge of a revolution by dangerous elements within. Bombings were taking place and other extremist, dangerous and detrimental events and activities were increasing and happening.
***On the Verge of Revolution
At one point Turkey was the most terror ridden state in Europe, but when the Turkish Military stepped in and detained much of the leadership hierarchy and thousands of other trouble makers and what not, Turkey became one of the most Terror free countries in Europe.
***Important and Valued Service
I was stationed in Turkey at the time of the Military Take Over, so in my limited experience, knowledge and understanding of the situation, this is my preliminary view of these matters. I would hope that General Kenan Evren's very, I would tend to believe, important and valuable service to his country and especially at this crucial and very dangerous time in the life of the Turkish People would be kept in mind while the prosecutors and the Government looks into these matters.
***A Dangerous & Unstable Situation
In such a dangerous and very unstable situation that Turkey found itself in the late 79's and early 80's, one cannot expect or demand absolute fairness nor total moderation in such an endeavor. One must expect some anomalies in behavior, attitudes and means employed to quell an insurrection or prevent ones country from sinking into chaos as happened in Lebanon.
***Adequate, But not Excessive
We need, in a reasonable manner to a reasonable degree, to control the citizens, organizations and so forth in our individual countries and be tough enough, just enough and practical enough to do so, but I hope we don't go overboard in attempting to implement justice, security and control in these dangerous times.
***Do We Need the Same?
Sometimes I think our country, the U. S. of A. is in need of very much the same thing that happened in Turkey in the 1980's, since we seem to have many of our top leaders who want to take away one of the traditional and very important pillars of our societies freedom and security, guns. Private citizen loosely controlled gun ownership, in my strongly held view and millions of others thinking, helps to protect us from overbearing governmental abuse or even tyrannical government. There also seems to be a significant number of our leaders who are desiring to and gradually subverting our country into a hidden unholy click agenda run government, behind our backs through underhanded means!
***Swift, Firm and Sufficient!
I say if this be true, we need to act, act quickly, firmly and to the degree needed! May God help both the U.S.A. and Turkey in these perilous times.
